NMR Diffraction Revisited with a Modified CRAZED Double Quantum Imaging Sequence

چکیده
Distant dipolar fields allow observation of intermolecular multiple quantum coherences. Recently, this phenomenon has been exploited to obtain structural information since these signals result from pairs of spins separated by the correlation distance (Dc). Here we show experimentally in a model system consisting of a 7×6 array of water-filled capillaries that capillary diameter and spacing can be retrieved by a CRAZED-type double quantum sequence. Using phase cycling, signal attributed to different coherence transfer pathways (M=0, 2, ±1) at various Dc could be isolated. For M=0, ±1, diffraction peaks occurring at Dc=(2-M)×λ/2 could be observed, with λ being the inter-capillary spacing.

Intermolecular Double-Quantum-Coherence Imaging
Introduction Recently we have demonstrated a new type of MRI based on detection of intermolecular zero-quantum coherences (iZQCs) both in vitro and in viva.‘,’ These coherences correspond to simultaneously flipping two water spins in opposite directions on molecules separated by 10 pm 10 mm. It is also possible to detect intermolecular double quantum coherences (iDQCs) corresponding to simultan...
متن کاملA robust pulse sequence for the determination of small homonuclear dipolar couplings in magic-angle spinning NMR
We present a new solid-state NMR pulse sequence that accomplishes efficient broad-band dipolar recoupling in systems with small dipolar couplings and large chemical shift anisotropies. The method involves a supercycled symmetry-based recoupling sequence incorporated in a constant-interval data acquisition strategy. The supercycle removes destructive higher-order average Hamiltonian terms, and m...
متن کاملHigh-resolution NMR spectroscopy in inhomogeneous fields via intermolecular multiple-quantum coherences between spin 1/2 and quadrupolar nuclei
Introduction In inhomogeneous fields, high-resolution NMR spectra can be achieved via homonuclear intermolecular multiple-quantum coherences (iMQCs) [1-3]. We ever proposed SEL-HOMOGENIZED, IDEAL and iDQF-HOMOGENIZED pulse sequences for this purpose [2-4]. To simplify the 2D spectra, selective RF pulses were used, which make them not applicable when the chemical shifts of solvent and solute are...
متن کاملAmyloid Fibril Formation by Aβ16-22, a Seven-Residue Fragment of the Alzheimer’s β-Amyloid Peptide, and Structural Characterization by Solid State NMR
The seven-residue peptide N-acetyl-Lys-Leu-Val-Phe-Phe-Ala-Glu-NH2, called Aβ16-22 and representing residues 16 through 22 of the full-length β-amyloid peptide associated with Alzheimer’s disease, is shown by electron microscopy to form highly ordered fibrils upon incubation of aqueous solutions. X-ray powder diffraction and optical birefringence measurements confirm that these are amyloid fibr...
متن کاملHigh-resolution NMR spectra under inhomogeneous fields via intermolecular double-quantum coherences.
High-resolution NMR spectroscopy is a powerful tool for analyzing molecular structures and compositions. Line-widths of conventional liquid NMR signals are directly proportional to the overall magnetic field inhomogeneity the sample experiences. In many circumstances, spatial and temporal homogeneity of the magnetic field is degraded. In this paper, a modified pulse sequence based on intermolec...
